Wash your baby’s hands before meals

I’ll admit, I forgot about this step with my second.

We started baby-led weaning with Shay right around 5 months old. She’s our second and kept watching big brother and I eat right in front of her. I guess she thought that was rude because she got incredibly frustrated every time we ate by her!

One day we decided to offer her some food and she was much happier. So we kind of started giving her food before we were mentally prepared to start. A couple weeks in, she became more mobile and began moving off of her clean playmate onto other areas of the floor and that’s when I remembered thinking… I really need to start cleaning her hands before she eats!

If I remember before I put her in the chair, I tend to simply run her hands under soap and water at the sink. If she’s already in her chair, I grab a small bowl and fill it with soap and water for her to put her hands in.

Pro tip: save the bowl with soap and water for after meals too and soak her little fingers in it to help with clean-up. Assuming you aren’t doing a bath after EVERY meal😜
