The dangers of going down the slide with your kid

Did you know it could potentially be more dangerous for you to go down the slide with your child than for he or she to go alone? No matter how small they are.

Researchers at the Academy of American Pediatrics concluded that the risk of a leg injury increases when an adult goes down a slide with a child, especially children ages 3 and under. The risk of their leg getting caught on the side of the slide as you go down increases when an adults legs are also taking up space on the slide.

If you choose to go down the slide with your child still, it is recommended that you ensure his or her legs are secure before and while you are both going down the slide. I had no idea this study and information existed with Elson, so we have gone down together many times! It was so fun to encourage him to go down the slide while he was still little and somewhat nervous to go on his own. I’m grateful to have this knowledge now to be aware of the potential danger of doing this in the future.

Were you already aware of this information? What other potential dangers at the playground are you aware of?
