Pee on a mattress? Do this.

As I embark on a potty training journey with my 2-year-old, I have a feeling this little nugget of information may be helpful for me to have in my back pocket. First things first, if you can, buy a waterproof mattress protector which will likely help you avoid having to worry about a situation like this in the first place.

If you happen to have an accident on the mattress and need to know how to make your mattress look and smell clean again, keep reading! Below are the steps you should take to remove pee from your mattress with materials you likely already have on-hand. The most important thing is to act fast!

Step 1: Remove the sheets and throw them in the wash with some vinegar and baking soda in hot water.

Step 2: If you catch the stain while it is still wet on the mattress, dab as much pee as you can with a cloth.

Step 3: Pour or spray white vinegar onto the stain to help sanitize and remove the odor. Let sit for 20 minutes and dab with a cloth.

Step 4: Sprinkle baking soda on the stain and let sit overnight. This will help remove the vinegar smell and any other lingering odors. Vacuum up the baking soda in the morning.

That’s it! You now have a fresh, like new mattress once again! If you aren’t able to get to the stain right away, you might need a deeper clean but this should do the trick for any newer urine stains. Have you tried this method before? What else has worked for you?
