How to thicken liquid soap

I have been using Mrs. Meyers hand soap for a while now, but I recently discovered ‘fragrance’ on their ingredients list. I purchased some liquid castile soap for other uses around the house and thought this would be a great alternative! As soon as I put the soap in the bottle and used it, I realized how watery the consistency on castile soap is and quickly started looking up how I could possibly thicken it.

Here are 2 easy ways you can thicken your hand soap with materials you likely already have on hand:

Salt Water: Take 1 part regular table salt and 2 parts hot water and mix them together. The water must be hot in order for the salt to dissolve! Slowly add this mixture to your liquid soap until you reach the desired consistency. The mixture may thicken a bit more over the next 24 hours. Place the mixture into your hand soap dispenser.

Oils: Although I haven’t personally tried this method, some oils are known to naturally thicken liquid hand soap. Olive oil is a great choice and some essential oils such as Eucalyptus or Lavender. If you go with this option, you will likely not need to add the salt water solution unless you simply want your soap to take on one of these scents!

Have you tried either of these methods to thicken your liquid hand soap? Which worked best for you?
