FREE storytime at your local library

Have you checked to see if your library offers any free events for your kids? Ours does! We love attending family storytime during the week which is geared toward families with toddlers.

Our library hosts a 30-minute storytime on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings before naptime each week and it’s the perfect excuse to get out of the house for some family FREE fun! We are also big readers so I love that I already have a reason to go to the library and get new books for our shelf for the week. We are consistently maxing out of the number of books we are allowed to have checked out at one time!

I’m sure every storytime across libraries looks different but, for ours, our youth librarians focus on reading 3 books each week that are all related to a specific theme. They also have PowerPoint slides up in the background that reveal a “letter of the week,” show lyrics to several songs woven in between each book to give kids an opportunity to be silly and move around in between listening to each story, and they have books at the back of the room related to that week’s theme that you can check out and take home with you. The whole thing is so well done!

If you haven’t checked out your library’s event calendar recently, I highly encourage you to see if there’s anything like this going on near you. The classes normally aren’t very large so you’ll want to figure out how to sign-up and get your little ones on the list to attend! Have you attended a storytime event before? What was it like?
