We recently purchased a deep freezer, and I am loving the extra space to store food that is on sale at the store each week! I’m also looking forward to having more storage for my breastmilk for this second kiddo. That being said, there is one item we purchased in addition to the deep freezer that I am so glad we have. That item is a digital thermometer with a temperature alarm.
We spent way too much money on all of that food to let it go to waste, so we decided to invest an additional $15 to make sure we are aware of when that food may be at risk. We’ve only had our freezer for a month and the thermometer has already saved our food once!
One morning at 3 o’clock in the morning, the GFCI outlet the freezer is plugged into stopped giving power to the freezer and the temperature started rising immediately. Once it got to a certain level, the indoor digital thermometer started sounding an alarm in response to the thermometer in the deep freezer reading 26 degrees and climbing. I was able to immediately wake up from the alarm and address the situation before we lost any food.
So, trust me, if you are already investing money in the freezer itself it is well worth the extra peace of mind to get an alarm that will notify you of any changes in temperature before you lose everything inside. Here is a link to the device we purchased on Amazon. Had you heard of a temperature sensor and alarm before? Anything else you recommend people buy for their deep freezer?
