Milk: Do you need to shake it before drinking it?

I tend to shake my orange juice before opening it because I like to move the pulp around before I pour it in my cup. (Yes, I prefer to my “chew” my orange juice). Anyway, one day I found myself doing the same thing with my milk and thought, “Is this really necessary?” So, of course, I had to look it up.

So, do you need to shake your milk before drinking it? Most likely, no. Here’s why: Most milk in stores is homogenized which means the fat globules are reduced to roughly even sizes so that the cream and milk have already been mixed together throughout your entire carton. So shaking it isn’t going to make a difference, mama. Fortunately, this is a pretty harmless habit and you’ve got plenty of other things to worry about so, if it’s a hard habit to break, I say carry on!

Did you know this already? Do you shake your milk?
