Let your kids see you reading

If you’re a parent and want your kid to like reading, the best thing you can do is… let them see YOU reading!

I saw this advice a lot while reading up on how to raise this big kid, and I can confirm now this is fabulous advice! We’ve been reading books with El since he was a baby and still read lots of books with him every day. The game changer has been having family reading time where everybody reads their own book independently, including Elson. Of course, he can’t read then words yet… But, trust me, we have read all of his books enough times that he understands what’s going on just from the pictures.

I love this time for me because I get to dive into a book I’m really enjoying on my own while also spending time with him just by being in his presence. If you are reading this and thinking this won’t work for you because you don’t like to read, it could just be you haven’t found a genre that speaks to you yet… try something new!

Who else has a little reader on their hands? What do you do to keep them interested in reading books?
